Web Definition: Little Feat
Little Feat are a band who have mixed blues, R&B, country & rock & roll styles together since they formed in 1969 in Los Angeles. Formed by two former members of Frank Zappa s Mothers of Invention ; songwriter & guitarist Lowell George, who also provided vocals & slide guitar & Roy Estrada on bass guitar, along with drummer Richard Hayward & Billy Payne on keyboards. Their first two albums, Little Feat & Sailin Shoes, received good reviews but failed commercially & the band split up until 1972 when it reformed with Kenny Gradney replacing Estrada. This new incarnation also included guitarist Paul Barrere & percussionist Sam Clayton The group disbanded in 1979 after Georges death from an apparent heart attack, but reformed yet again in 1988 when Barrere, Clayton, Gradney, Hayward & Payne added guitarists Craig Fuller & Fred Tackett, the former also providing vocals. In 1995 Fullers vocals were replaced by those of female singer Shaun Murphy. In 2002 they launched their own record label, Hot Tomato Records.
